The vacation trip to Hawai'i this July offered the opportunity to do some island flying with Maui Aviators. The flight school/aircraft rental operates out of the Kahului airport, the main airport on Maui (OGG) with 5000/7000' runways that serves arriving tourists.

I was required to get a check-out with one of the instructors on July 20th. After a discussion on airspace and area (Kahului is a class C airport) I did a couple of landings in the usual strong headwind on runway 05.
Coming back on the 22nd and 27th the course was plot for a north-west departure to Molokai (green) and an east departure along Maui's coastline (red). There's no need to contact ground from the east-ramp and after run-up Clearance issues departure instructions. Tower hands one over to Maui Departure and a couple of miles out the well-known "Frequency change approved, Squawk VFR, G'day" follows. Painting a line along the islands' coasts at around 1000 to 2000' is a great adventure as a couple of the following impressions prove :)

I prepared a windows movie that you can download and play on your computer - beware - it is 2.5MB in size (balancing between lowest possible quality and size): movie.wmv
